Master Bathroom

After...

What started-out as a minor bathroom freshening quickly grew to a complete tearout, as the lower third of the tile wall in the shower stall collapsed during a routine shower.  As it turns-out, poor construction techniques when the shower was built originally lead to serious water damage and rot, requiring a complete tearout and rebuild of the shower stall.

The homeowner was delighted with the final result shown in the pictures at left and below.  The bathroom was transformed from a dated, rather masculine look to an airy retreat.

The bathroom features 12" x 12" porcelain tile on the floor and shower walls, with 1" x 1" mosaic tiles on the floor of the shower providing an attractive non-slip surface.   The floor-to-ceiling shower stall is enhanced with a colorful slate mosaic border, and includes a comfortable integrated corner seat.

Dual ceramic shelves provide lots of storage for soaps, shampoo, and other necessities.  The Danze shower faucet and head in oil-rubbed bronze finish complement the matching faucets and accessories throughout the room.
Shower Fixtures

Before...

Although the master bathroom had great potential, with 10 foot ceilings and an airy skylight over the generous shower stall, the dreary tile and worn-out fixtures were in desperate need of updating.

As seen in the pictures below, poor construction techniques had caused significant water damage to the framing and floor substrate.   Inadequate subfloor support resulting in cracking of the tile substrate, and ultimately the grout joints throughout the bathroom floor.   What looks like driftwood in the picture below was once the support for the shower curb.  There's not much left after years of soaking by water leaking from the improperly-installed shower pan.
